Musicians Nirmala Rajasekar and David Jordan Harris explore the cultural and musical worlds behind the repertoire in their concert Song of Wonder. Demonstrating an exciting spectrum of musical styles contained within their respective Carnatic and Sephardic art forms, Nirmala and David will take their audience on a journey through the centuries across the landscapes of South India and the Judeo-Spanish world of Turkey, Morocco, and Bosnia.

School workshop

Students are introduced to Sephardic and Carnatic musical traditions: scales, rhythms, singing styles, and instruments--such as the veena, mridangam, ‘ud, guitar, electric bass guitar, dumbek (tabla), and  doire (frame drum). The groups will present examples of their individual music forms as well as perform an impromptu collaboration, demonstrating a fusion of musical styles.
